Retrofitting as keyword, rethinking in a contemporary key dwelling after long time from the construction that in this case was at the beginning of the ’60, in a block inserted inside the post-earthquake urban chessboard facing Cardinal Portanova Street, in that that we renamed Latin Quarter. After an initial proposal of C shaped building, in Art Nouveau style, were built two parallels sticks along the longest sides, one facing the others, with public housing functions, today almost became private.
The structure represents perfectly the traditional stereotype of Southern Italy architecture, presenting various and bad transformation.
The goals of the project are to transform these weakness in strong points, regulating and ordering the existing, balancing these buildings with the surrounding.
Main intervention regards:
- Extensions of domestic spaces over the balcony and the creating aligned curtain walls, the internal disposition of the ambiences and the placing of four elevators permitted by putting outside the stairs;
- Creation of a centralized termal power station that supply the 34 different ambiences, and from which start oversized pipes that characterized the courtyard;
- Optimization of common spaces and destination of ground floors, some last floors and roofs to public activities:
- medical centre;
- dance hall;
- service flat;
- vertical gardens;
- Reorganize of the courtyard, actually used as parking, and of the facing square with new seats and flowerbed, down which are placed 22 new parkings.
